If you’re in Bacalar you have to try Cheuinic! The atmosphere, the service, the drinks were all fantastic. We ordered every single thing on the menu and loved it all! The meat dishes were delicious but the cauliflower was surprisingly our favorite, must try! The chef and bartender both came to our table to tell us about the drinks and food, and they were so kind and appreciative. Brand new restaurant, give them your love!

This place was a masterclass on service and flavors. The drinks were balanced and inventive. The food was simply divine. The Chef (and possibly owner) came out to the table to explain the dishes and check on us multiple times. Looking forward to coming back soon.

The dinner last night at Cheunic was off the charts. Everything about our experience here exceeded our expectations. The staff was friendly and extremely informative. You can tell they are very proud of what they are doing here in Bacalar. The tastes and flavors were unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. We had the roasted cauliflower to share along with the tepache vinaigrette salad to kick off the meal and our tongues were tingling. Then we ordered the mahi mahi, beef cheeks, and pork belly. Every dish was memorable and bursting with flavor. Hands down our favorite meal of our two week trip to Mexico. We cruised by on bikes around 5pm to make a reservation for later in the evening and we are so glad we did. The prices were great and the cocktails were on point. This restaurant is new and I predict major success.

An immersive journey into the “lagoon” of contemporary Mexican cuisine. It was the most memorable dinner of our entire trip. In a perfect balance between minimalism, ethnic warmth and artisanal touches, Ricardo and Rodolfo unfolded the history and significance behind every dish, offering not just a meal, but a dialogue with the region’s traditions and flavors. The cachete de res was the standout, so tender it melted into the soul! Prices are surprisingly modest for such an experience, absolutely not to be missed that you will carry with you long after the last bite.

Worth making a detour to Bacalar just to try this unique hidden gem. Chef Ricardo Mendez has a unique contemporary take on Mexican cuisine that blends and balances traditional flavors with new combinations and techniques. Truly a show of his talent. Don’t miss this place. Prices are more than fair and lower than almost anywhere in the vicinity despite the quality being much higher. I appreciated the emphasis in the menu on tips being voluntary. The staff is great and attentive and earns their gratuity fully. A must try

Incredible food. By far the most inventive and technically impressive food we’ve had travelling throughout southern Mexico. Service was very quick and staff including chef attentive. Setting was lovely, including little details like lightly smoking embers placed at the restaurant’s threshold with a lovely aroma which complimented the design of the space. Great music and an all around lovely meal, all for less than a third of the price you would expect to pay for something of this quality.

What can I say? This was an amazing dining experience! This small, modern restaurant just recently opened and stands out with its delicious food, careful preparation, and cozy atmosphere. I really enjoyed it! The dishes are creative and full of flavor, with each one being a pleasant surprise. Plus, the prices are fair, which makes it even better. If you’re in Bacalar, you should definitely check it out. Highly recommended!
